Farm Tour – Faspa Farm (FaRM Program)
July 11 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Mark your calendars for the first in a series MOA Cover Crop Farm Tours at Faspa Farm near Manitou, MB!
Do you want to learn more about cover crops? MOA is collaborating with Farmers for Climate Solutions (FCS) to offer cover cropping training through their new Farm Resilience Mentorship Program (FaRM). This farm tour will be a part of this training!
There are two ways to participate in these farm tours: as a FaRM trainee or as a general participant.
Option 1: FaRM Trainee
Through the FaRM program, you will be able to identify how cover crops can fix some of the soil problems on your farm, and how these plants can improve your bottom line. By using cover crops, you can improve the fertility of your soils, manage weeds, and add biodiversity to your farm! For conventional farmers, this means you can cut back on your use of fertilizers, soil amendments, and sprays.
When you sign up for this program, you’ll be placed in a group of around 10 farmers and will work with a Farmer Mentor. After the farm tour and training, you have some time to work with your Mentor to make your own cover crop plan and ask more questions.
This training includes working through online course material (roughly 2-4 hours worth) which has been designed to boost your understanding of cover crops and how they can benefit your operation! You’ll also receive up to one hour of one-on-one support from your Mentor and have access to optional Communities of Inquiry (COIs) over the course of a year. These COIs are an opportunity to meet online with your Mentor and the other farmers in your cohort on a regular basis to connect, ask questions, and share ideas. Find out more about the program here!
This program is FREE! However, MOA is providing a catered lunch and is asking participants to contribute $10 to help cover the costs. You can make this payment online here or bring $10 with you to pay when you check in.
When you sign up to be a FaRM Trainee, you will be asked to select the farm tour/training session you would like to attend and will be automatically added to that farm tour registration list.
If you have any questions or would like to chat with someone about this program, you can reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Option 2: General Participant
We do have a limited amount of space open for those who want to attend the farm tour but are not able to participate in the FaRM training program. We would like to encourage all farmers to consider taking part in the cover crop training before registering for just the farm tour but all are welcome!
You can register as a general participant and make your $10 payment for the catered lunch by clicking the button below.
