Webinar Series: Managing Nature’s resources in organic production under water-limited conditions
November 2 @ 11:30 am - December 7 @ 1:30 pm$40
This year, 2021, has been one for the books: low soil water reserves in the fall of 2020, little snow cover, high temperatures, and a prolonged drought. These weather conditions had negative consequences for grain and forage production in Canada’s Prairie Provinces as well as the US Northern Great Plains. Some of the most severe conditions occurred in Manitoba, a production region that typically receives adequate (sometimes too much) precipitation.
Are these conditions a sign of things to come as the planet continues to warm? What can organic farmers do to prepare for these conditions in future? What is working and what is not? These questions will be addressed in the upcoming webinar series entitled “Managing nature’s resources in organic production under water-limited conditions”.
Dr. Martin Entz of the University of Manitoba will host the series. He has invited experts to discuss options for water and soil management strategies – strategies that should make organic systems more resilient to climate stress in future. Each of the 90 minute sessions will include: A presentation by an invited guest expert, a discussion of the topic between Dr. Entz and the invited guest, then a half hour where the guest answers questions from the audience.
