Green Internships

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announced two new funding programs this week to promote employment in the agriculture sector for youth under 30.

Green internships

Matching (50:50) funds of up to $16,000 to help agricultural organizations to hire high school or college/university students to support environmentally beneficial activities on the farm. These internships can last up to 12 months and must be completed by March 31, 2019.The initiative will be accepting applications on a continuous basis as long as funds remain available. Applications will be accepted starting at 10:00 am EDT on April 26, 2017.

Eligible activities

Eligible activities include an environmentally beneficial management activity or supporting the implementation of a Beneficial Management Practice that will help improve the intern’s employability in the agricultural field.

A Beneficial Management Practice is defined as any agricultural management practices which:
•Ensure the long-term health and sustainability of land-related resources used for agricultural production;
•Positively impact the long-term economic and environmental viability of agricultural production; or
•Minimize negative impacts and risk to the environment.
